Advantages of Hair Drug Testing

People are often required to have some type of drug testing done for various reasons. Many employers require potential employees to agree to some type of drug testing such as a hair follicle drug test to make sure that they do not take drugs. Drugs can affect an individual’s ability to perform work by affecting their judgment and causing various physical and psychological problems.

Because drugs can be very dangerous to athletes and give them an unfair advantage over their competitors, many sports organizations or coaches require athletes to undergo drug testing. Some parents even decide to have their children undergo hair drug testing if they suspect possible drug abuse.

Out of all the available methods, a hair follicle drug test is one of the easiest types of drug testing. The test only requires that a person submits several hair strands, which is one of the easiest methods. First, a hair sample is collected and then sent in a sealed envelope to a laboratory where it will be tested.

Many people prefer to use hair drug testing because it can be used to determine if an individual has used drugs within the past 90 days. That means that if an individual has used drugs 3 months ago, the test will still show a positive result. This is quite different from other types of drug tests such as saliva and urine tests, which only detect drug use for as little as a few days. The significantly longer time span in which drugs can be detected is possible because of the tiny amount of drug chemicals that become embedded within each strand of an individual’s hair.

Hair drug testing is also one of the most accurate and fastest of any type of drug test. Compared to other available types of drug tests, the accuracy of a hair follicle drug test can be ten times higher. Many employers, coaches and parents choose this type of drug testing because they desire results that are very accurate.

Furthermore, hair testing is discrete and confidential. There is no need for people to be embarrassed by having to provide a urine or saliva sample. By merely submitting a few strands of hair, very accurate results can be produced.
